The Cavaliers and the roundheads were fighting in the civil war. They were fighting because they believed they were fighting for god and because some did not support king charles I.

They beheaded king charles I in 1649. They overthrow him becase he was convicted of treason. He would also ignore the petition of right and that is so the king has a limit on taxing people, imprisioning people, and institute martial law. So when he kept taking aways this law and would higher the taxes then put this law back the people got very upset with him.

The restoration of the monarchy is makred as the return of king charles II as king. This was unpoprular because the main reason being because the army and religious policies were unpopular. This brought back the sence of freedom and crativity in arts and literature that cromwell discouraged.

This led to establishment of an english nation that limited the kings power. Also it provided protection for the english subjects. It involved the overthrow of king james II who was replaced by his protestant daughter and her husband.
