The Battle of Hastingswas fought on 14, October1066between two people vying for the throne: William and Harold. Harold had just came back victorious from a previous battle. Unfortunately, he would not be so lucky to survive and would be defected by William. This would mark as the last successful invasion of England!

The coronation of William as the new King had taken place on Christmas day in 1066. The crowning ceremony was performed by Alfred who was the archbishop of York.

Fun fact: When the English speaking Saxons and French speaking Normans shouted their approval of his crowning, soldiers mistook it for an assassination attempt and burned down Saxon houses. King William just carried on with the ceremony...
