The author foreshadowed by calling the island “Ship Trap Island” this foreshadows that someone or something is going to get trapped on the island.
Conflict
The author makes the mood seem unsettling and to the characters because “Sailors have an extra sense that tells them when they are in danger. Evil is a tangible thing: an evil place can broadcast vibrations of evil.”
Climax
This scene is ironic because General Zaroff is completely a different person than what he is procieved to be in this scene to Rainsford.”He was finding the General most thoughtful and and affable host, a true cosmopolite.”
Resolution
The General’s words in this scene are a great example of man vs. man. “I drink to a foreman worthy of my steel-at last. Your brain against mine. Your woodcraft against mine. Your strength and stamina against mine.”
“Across the cove he could see the gloomy gray stone of the château. Twenty feet below him the sea rumbled and hissed. Rainsford hesitated. He heard the Hounds. Then he leaped far out into the sea…”This scene is the climax because this is when the reader is now thinking Rainsford is safe.
This scene is when Rainsford shows his inner beast and kills General Zaroff ending this story.”Rainsford did not smile. “I am still a beast at bay,” he said, in a low, hoarse voice. “Get ready, General Zaroff.” The General made one of his deepest bows. “I see, he said. Splendid! One of us is to furnish a repast for the hounds. The other will sleep in this very excellent bed. On guard, Rainsford.”
