- Brent knows whenever he goes to the hospital he has to take painful shots (Unconditioned Stimuli). The shots make him feel afraid (Unconditioned Response).
- Brent, you are just afraid of the smell (conditioned stimuli) and and crying(conditioned response). No one is going to give you a shot
- Here, Brent notices doctor always uses rubbing alcohol on his arm before he gives him a shot of injection.

- Alexa and Brent are home. Alexa accidently gets a cut and she uses rubbing alcohol to clean it.
- Alexa explains him that he is afraid (Conditioned Response) of the smell of rubbing alcohol (Conditioned stimuli) because of its relation with painful shots from the hospital (stimuli)
- Over the time Brent was exposed to the smell of rubbing alcohol very often and he stopped felling fearful when he smells rubbing alcohol. Extinction has taken place.
