- Consent -Permission to do something or agreement to do something.Consent occurs when one person willingly agrees to the proposition or desires of someone.
- Consent needs to be given by both parties. In terms of sexual relationships, consent to engage in sex cannot be given by someone of low mental status, are under the legal age of consent, or through coercion.
- Everyone needs a proper education on consent, especially in terms of sexual relations. Many young people do not know what sex should be like. For example, a young girl might not know she has been assaulted because of a misconception in her education. She might have been told to do whatever her boyfriend wants because it is her "duty".
- Let's talk about misconceptions about consent.
- "Boys will be boys" False. Rapists will be rapists. A person (not just a boy's) decision to sexually assault someone is not due to their tough or playful nature.
- A victim's promiscuity is not a cause for assault. Nothing is. No matter what the victim was wearing, they were not "asking for it"
- Let's say there is a couple who claim to love each other. They have sex because they both want to. However, one partner is 15 and the other is 21. The minor CANNOT legally consent even if they both want to engage in sexual relations with each other.
- Let's say a mentally challenged girl is taught that exercise is good and that sexual acts is exercise. This is manipulation and even if the girl likes this "exercise" it is under false pretense and is rape
