- Achilles parents were told he would die young, so his mother wanted to make him immortal. She took him to the river Styx and held him by his left heel and dipped him into the magical water. While in a battle the Trojan prince Paris shot an arrow into his left heel. The only vulnerable part of his body that was not dipped into the river Styx, then he died from that injury.
- The goddess of the harvest, Demeter loved making the Earth beautiful with flowers and trees. The only thing she loved more was her daughter Persephone. One day Persephone wondered off to look at a beautiful flower. Then the god of the underworld Hades kidnapped her and wanted to make her his Queen. She did not want to marry him. She wanted to go home to her mother. Hades made a deal to allow her to go home ½ the year. Demeter, makes harvest blossom ½ the year and all the blossoms are gone when Persephone is gone.
- The best musician in all of Greece, Orpheus was married to Eurydice and they were very much in love. One day Eurydice was bitten by a Poisson snake and died. Orpheus went at great lengths to go to the underworld and make a deal with Hades to get his wife back. Hades made a deal with him that Eurydice was to return in under one condition, that Orpheus must have faith that Eurydice will follow him out of the underworld. And not look back until they were completely out. He had doubt and looked back. When you give your word you should keep it.
