- Sadao, a Japanese doctor and his wife Hana found a escaped US Navy soldier washed up on the shore with a gun wound. They decided that the best course of action was to put him back in the ocean but they could not go through with it as he was injured and bleeding profuselyy.

- Sadao operates on the man after Hana cleans him after Yumi , the servant refused. During the operation, Hana wretches and helps him with anaesthetic . He calls the man his friend forgetting that he was his enemy.

- The soldier,Tom,being in the house caused displeasure to the servants.They wanted him to be reported. Sadao decided to file a police report but in the end left it unfinished in his drawer.
