- Narrator 1(Jaycob Marcelo): Qin Shi Huang, the first emperor of a unified China under the Qin Dynasty, ordered that earlier fortifications between states be removed and a number of existing walls along the northern border be joined into a single system that would extend for more than 10,000 li (a li is about one-third of a mile).
- Narrator 2: Apart from defense, other purposes of the Great Wall have included border controls, allowing the imposition of duties on goods transported along the Silk Road, regulation or encouragement of trade and the control of immigration and emigration.
- Narrator 1(Jaycob Marcelo): No one knows exactly how long the wall was or where it was built as most of it has worn down or been destroyed. The famous Chinese general Meng Tian initially directed the project and said;
- The Emperor strengthened and extended the wall, oftenwith the aim of keeping out the northern invaders.
- Qin Shin Huang(Daniel Jake Pastor): General Meng Tian used a massive army of soldiers or convicts and commoners as workers.
- Narrator 2(Ron Estera): The materials that were used in creating the wall arerammed earth and wood made up most of the wall.
- In some places, the wall was constructed of brick. Elsewhere, quarried granite or even marble blocks wereused.
