- The Tigris and Euphrates rivers created fertile ground called the Fertile Crescent this allowed agriculture which on good years created a surplus of grains that could be sold or rationed/eaten. The rivers also gave water to the people.

- "Well I know the gods influence everything. For example, if a river flooded it was because of the Enki the god of water so if s flood destroyed all the crops it was because Enki got mad".

- The Mesopotamian religion was a polytheistic religion and they believed each god was responsible for something. So if a storm came and destroyed all the crops it would be because of Enlil the god of air and wind so they prayed to the gods so it wouldn't happen.
