- Photosynthesis is the sort of thing that if we didn't have it, our planet would be a barren wasteland with no plants.
- You see, plants take in sunlight, water, and CO2 and it goes to the chloroplast, which turns it into C6H12O6, aka glucose and releases oxygen. That is the oxygen we breathe in.
- But before all that happens, the sunlight goes into the chloroplast and excites it. This gives it energy to make NADPH and, most importantly, ATP. This is the energy for the cell.
- Then, the cell uses this energy for the Calvin cycle. This cycle starts with a CO2 molecule coming into the stroma, the empty part of the chloroplast, and put it with another carbon molecule. Then, they use the ATP to create the glucose.
- And, lastly, the plant does the electron transport cycle. This cycle makes water for the plant to use for growth and the leftover oxygen is used for us to breathe. Next time you take a breath or eat a vegetable, think about averything that plant went through to give that to you.
