- CONFLICT
- You have three wishes
- RISING ACTION
- I'm so sorry about Herbert
- The White family awaits their guest Sgt. Major Morris while Herbert and Mr. White play a game of chess.
- CLIMAX
- It's Herbert! He's back!
- Sgt. Morris comes and brings a monkey's paw. He explains that you can wish for anything you want but it comes with a great consequence. Then Mr. White makes the mistake of wishing for 200 pounds.
- FALLING ACTION
- You're afraid of our son.
- A messenger comes to their house to tell them that their son has been caught in the machinery and died. He then gives them 200 pounds for their loss.
- RESELUTION
- After wishing for their son back to life, Mr & Mrs. White hear a knock at the door and Mrs. White goes to answer it. Mr. White realizes that something is going to happen that is worse than death so he undoes his previous wish.
- I wish for my son to go back to his grave
- The knocking at the door stops and Mrs. White is upset that she will never see her son again. Mr. White knows he did the right thing.
- They open the door to find no one there and Mr & Mrs. White go back inside.
