- The British had to leave the city of Boston, and try to capture another place. With America not backing off, the British gave control back to the Americans.
- *sigh*Retreat
- The British fought the colonists for the control of New York in order to get to the heart of the revolution, Boston.
- The British were successfully able to capture New York City.
- General George Washington did not want to surrender. He even didn't want to say retreat, but Thomas Mifflin convinced him to do so.
- The British would not stop chasing after the Americans. This lead to a famous icy crossing of the Delaware River at the battle of Trenton.
- At the beginning of the war, African Americans were not allowed to join the continental army. However, if they joined the British side they were allowed freedom.
