- A lean shape canoe glides across the water going a way from the Carib islands. while stingrays fly across the sky scaring unaware passers. Here our main characters relaxes and one get startle. They're soon swept away by a wave, then through up into the air hurling them towards coral and then hit some. When the wave broke they landed in a lagoon. this starts the location of the whole story and defines there conflicts.
- Ahhhh!
- Next Morning, they start out with a breakfast and became quite talkative. talking about how much money they think they could make, how Jimmy wants to get a sloop, and how the grandpa was thankful for even get a canoe in his days. They soon reach the reef looking at the bright colorful fish and coral. After a while, Jimmy is excited and real greedy for this but Jim warns Jimmy to be cautious about the treacherous reef's abyss. this talks about the relationship between them knowing that they are different but still family.
- Jimmy finds a sea sponge golden and silky, but then a tiger shark (his first conflict) trys to kill him, in the rush he got the silky sponge but at the cost of his hand being puncher by a sea urchin. He barely made it out of live. Jim and Jimmy had to wait for hours for the shark to go before going again. On his second attempt he did not find anything till the end, when he found a beautiful shiny shell. when he got it an ell bit his hand and did not let go. this explains the different between their Characteristic defining they future problems and learning points.
- hey, can you get us treasures from the reef?
- no, because enough is plenty.
- In his last minute under water the eel let go and try for another bit, giving him the chance to swim to the surface. After being pulled he was to weak so he rest through the night from all most being drown but, was happy to breath air. During this he inform his grandpa that they have to stay because of the shiny shell telling him it would make them rich. Intern Jim said "enough is plenty" and "talking that way is unlucky". For seeing that Jimmy is exhausted and greedy, this seen tells the characteristics of them starting to change and starts the situational irony of the state they are in.
- then they went to sleep around the towering coral walls and under the moon light. Soon after they were attracted by a giants squid that comes out every 2 to 1 generations, then the squid grabbed his grandpa Jim scream in horror at the puncher the squid made in him. Jimmy gather the courage and got his machete, slicing off the tentacle off of the squid. After the gigantic squid retreated and the tentacle sank to the bottom of the broken canoe. Without a word both quickly paddled to the Carib islands until the brake of dawn. this talks about the unluckiness that Jim was talking about and even more changes in their characteristics strength the bond of the two in silence.
- when getting back Jimmy spend his money on buying a new canoe for his grandpa and the sloop he wanted. He also had hundreds of dollars left over making him one of the richest people on the islands. Even though he is rich from sponge diving he will never do it again. So when friends and others come to him asking for treasure from the sea, Jimmy shakes his head and says in a oracularly tone "enough is plenty". the theme here was that greediness can get you kill or put into worst situation that hurt others.
