- The main character, Victoria, is helping her foster mom make a string of flowers. The flowers on the string come together to make a secret message. Her foster mom, Elizabeth, is desperate to talk with her sister. Her and her sister have been fighting for over a couple years, and haven't been on talking terms.
- Later, they go into town to find Victoria a dress for adoption day. A quote from Elizabeth; " 'Next week you'll be my little girl, but you won't be a little girl much longer. I have to dress you up while I can.' " After Elizabeth says this, Victoria turns to cry. She says that for the first time she feels loved and has a sense of belonging.
- At the dress shop, Victoria tries on multiple dresses until finding the perfect one. When Victoria looks at Elizabeth, she couldn't tell whether she was going to laugh or cry. Until Elizabeth says, " 'Look at you,' she said. 'My baby' " Like earlier, Victoria breaks down.

- Victoria now grown up, is waiting outside of her new job. Due to previously being unemployed she was unable to pay rent and got kicked out of her group home; she was very desperate for a job. Currently, she was living in a park. The adoption with Elizabeth didn't work out.
- A few weeks passed and Victoria has been doing the tasks her boss ask her to. After her boss returns from the flower market, Victoria is sent off on her first delivery. On her way out, she feels her boss slip something into the pocket of her backpack.
- Checking the envelope in her backpack, she reads a note saying "Payment for your first two weeks. Don't disappoint me." and in the envelope sat $400. She finds an address on the back of the note and goes to it.
