My Jovial cook- Rekha di works in a known high-rise building in Mumbai for more than 10 years. In total, she cooks in 7 houses. Her monthly income from cooking is about INR 35,000. She wanted to get a loan of INR 3 lakhs for her house repair.
The basic KYC documents were in place. She further requested that I visit her bank branch with her to help her understand the documentation and process.
Didi could please help me and take a look at my papers and tell whether I can get a loan or not.
I'll need some papers including income tax return and salary slip.
On Friday, 12'o'clock we walked into her bank branch with her passbook.
After waiting at her counter for more than 40 minutes as I requested her to provide a document checklist to be considered while applying for a loan, she asked us to meet the branch manager.
We don’t offer these kinds of loans, the amount is too small for us to consider and we will anyways spend INR 30,000 for processing the loan so we will not give you loan.
My cook just thanked me for being there as she was happy that they at least spoke to her. She mentions that no one would have even spoken to her otherwise.
(As she needed a bigger loan she was okay to pre-close the previous loan)
In past I have already taken loans from 2 MFIs. My current loan is an individual loan of INR 75k of which I already paid about 15K.
What is the point of having a bank account when they don’t even consider us as their customer.
Rekha di and I decided to visit the SFB and seek a bigger loan. Unfortunately, the staff was unsure about the IL product. However, there was a new CRM, after the request who checked the documents and mentioned all documents are in place and she should visit the other branch on Monday.
I will speak to other branch and will brief them about our today’s discussion so that you need not start from clean slate.
Thank you so much didi for all your help all throughout. No one would have entertained my request to this extent without your assistance.
