Sam and Samantha first started off with 20 cookies. Then Samantha decided to give 4 cookies to the raccoon.
So our equation would be 20 - (-4). Since you have a positive and a negative you rewrite as addition. So Sam and Samantha have 24 cookies left over to share with their mom.
So our equation would be -240 divided by 3 which equals to -80. Since we are dividing a negative with a positive our answer would be negative. So each person has to pay $80.
So Sam and Samantha's mom asked if they could help with money loan for their tuition. Their mom has to pay $240 back and the money will get paid equally between 3 people.
The second part of the story represents division of two negative integers.
