Текст Раскадровки

  • In these lines, Antony uses logic to question the supposed ambition of Caesar by presenting evidence of his refusal of the crown. (Act III, Scene II, Lines 105-109)
  • "You all did see that on the LupercalI thrice presented him a kingly crown,Which he did thrice refuse. Was this ambition?Yet Brutus says he was ambitious,And, sure, he is an honourable man."
  • Antony uses emotional language and appeals to the crowd's feelings by describing Caesar's brutal murder. He shows them Caesar's bloody wounds and reads his will, invoking strong emotions of grief and anger.
  • Act III, Scene II, Lines 186-190:"Look, in this place ran Cassius' dagger through;See what a rent the envious Casca made;Through this the well-beloved Brutus stabbed; And as he plucked his cursed steel away,Mark how the blood of Caesar followed it."
  • Antony establishes his credibility by stating that he is not there to praise Caesar as Brutus did but to speak the truth. He uses Brutus's words against him, emphasizing that he is an honorable man (ethos by association).
  • "I come not, friends, to steal away your hearts.I am no orator, as Brutus is,But, as you know me all, a plain blunt man."Act III, Scene II, Lines 212-214
