- “How long before I get the pretend antidote?
- The main character is a cyborg. Cyborgs are not considered humans they have a guardian that is responsible for them. This takes place in the middle of a pandemic. There are scientists that are trying to test people, cyborgs. The main character, cinder is one that has been turned in for testing.

- Miss Linh, you must realize how valuable you’ve become with this discovery (page 68)
- The doctor injects the pandemic, somehow, into Cinder. Before the doctor could give her the vaccine they see it dissipate and don't understand why this is happening. Now they have to figure out what happened to the cinder.
- Cinder soon realizes that they are not putting in the vaccine enraging her so they won't be testing it on her. She gets very impatient without getting to know why she is not getting an antidote.
- The doctors then announce to Cinder that she reacted differently. None of the people understood what the doctor meant by this. The doctor was shocked when seeing an immune system fight it off without anything to help no one else had survived the disease.
- Soon after this cinder is sent free from the laboratory. She will have to come back but she is able to leave. Being the new main test subject Cinder is required to come back and a few other plot points from earlier are mentioned.
- Cinder has another project to be working on for another character that was mentioned earlier. Cinder decides that they needed to go back to help them and while being in the laboratory she gets the supplies that she needs for it.
