  • One common form of cyberbullying is known as body shaming or making critical comments about the shape or size of someone else's body. This type of cyberbullying can take place on all forms of social media. According to our survey, 90 percent of Americans surveyed admitted to having experienced body shaming at least once in their life. Most people — a whopping 62 percent of women compared to 30 percent of men — reported being body shamed by their mother. Dads are no treat, either. A little over 40 percent of women and almost 26 percent of men reported being body shamed in some way by their father.
  • Body shaming — of celebrities or others — can have severe effects on a person's mental health. Research by the Center for Advancing Health found that teens who believed they were overweight were more likely to suffer from depression or attempt suicide. Some think body shaming also distorts how we interact with others.

  • Being body-positive can be very easy, and it starts from loving yourselves and others around you!1. Embrace yourselves. Accept your curves and edges and give yourselves positive affirmations.2. Learn to take compliments. Instead of saying “no lah” like typical Malaysians do, say “thank you” instead.
  • Use affirmations instead of negative self-talk.Quiet that little voice in your head that tells you that you are too fat or thin, tall or short, big- or small-breasted, or any of the other ways in which you may echo the insults of the person who abused you. Replace these negative messages with affirmations focusing on what you like about yourself. Look in the mirror and say it out loud. Strong arms. Soulful eyes. A belly that carried a child and has the scars to prove it. Notice what is good and right about your body.
  • Acceptance: Stop HidingIt’s sad to know that people who experience body shaming hide. It can be isolating themselves from the world, covering up their bodies, or prefers to be ‘invisible’. This shouldn’t be this way. Life is too short to live in the shadows.Don’t let this get to your head; start loving and accepting your body. Stop hiding! If there are situations that make you uncomfortable, take little steps to overcome this. For example, you get anxious going to the mall because you’re afraid you might bump into someone you know, and you’re afraid of the comments you might hear; you should overcome this.
