Hey!RRRRRhh It's me, Ms. Warren and I am here to show you how to create your Trigonometry comic strip!

37 degrees
15 feet
The diagonal (hypotenuse) is 15 feet long. The angle given is 37 degrees. Therefore to find the width, we do cosine(37) times 15 to find the width is approximately 12.0 feet long!
Boards are measured by their diagonal distance. We can find their width using trigonometry.

If you didn't know, Ms. Warren loves trains! She wants to find the height of this locomotive using its shadow.
23 feet
52 degrees

I have been painting my house. I had to figure out a safe angle for my ladder to make with the floor when I lean it up against the wall.

8 feet
A safe ladder makes a 75 degree angle with the floor. Is Ms. Warren's ladder safe?

2 feet

The angle of elevation is 52 degrees, the shadow (adjacent side) is 23 feet and she wants to know the height (opposite side)To do so, she takes tan(52) and multiplies it by 23. She finds out the locomotive is 29.4 feet tall!
We must use inverse trig to find angle measures. Since we have the opposite (8 feet) and adjacent (2 feet) sides, we use tangent. So tan^-1 (8/2) = 76 degreesClose enough! She won't die. :)
