- Well that’s something to think about now. This is why it is so important for you guys to know what happened so you can fight for the justice that your ancestors deserved . Fight to spread knowledge and bring change to undo the harm and rebuild our hurting community.
- Of course. I'm glad you told me about all of this. I wish I knew beforehand. I wish we learned more about this in school. Would you say we are at least getting more proper education now?
- Well the government established a program called the Bureau of Indian Education (BIE) where they would try to improve and provide funds for Native tribes.
- Bureau of Indian Education“BIE’s mission is to provide quality education opportunities from early childhood through life in accordance with a tribe’s needs for cultural and economic well-being. In keeping with the wide diversity of Indian tribes and Alaska Native villages as distinct cultural and governmental entities further, the BIE is to manifest consideration of the whole person by taking into account the spiritual, mental, physical, and cultural aspects of the individual within his or her family andtribal or village context”
- Well it sounds like they really want to turn things around but didn't they provide funds last time too yet many of the schools still ended up shutting down?
- Well you see now, that all the funding and programs they have created are really up for debate. It's easy to say something on paper but it's really hard to put it into action and really make it work.
