  • King Odysseus lives in Ithica with his wife, Penelope and their son Telemachus who is a baby.
  • Meeting The Mentor
  • King Menelaus requests Odysseus help for fighting against the Trojans.
  • Crossing The Threshold
  • Odysseus doesn't want to leave his wife and his newborn child, so he pretends to be crazy in hopes that the king will let him stay. Instead this put Telemechaus at risk so he had to give up the act of being crazy in order to save his son.
  • Tests/Allies/Enemies
  • Athena who is the goddess of wisdom, military victory, and crafts guides Odysseus through his journey.
  • After the battle of Troy the gods wanted to punish Odysseus for his hubris acts. After this the Greeks got thrown off course.
  • Odysseus faces many enemies and threats, like Polyphemus the cyclopes, posiden, sirens, Charybdis the whirlpool, and Scylla the sea monster.

  • They're almost home, but Odysseus men decided to open the bag that the wind god told them not to open. Once they opened they got sent backwards.

  • Odysseus goes to the underworld and talks to the blind prophet Tiresias to get wisdom from. Tisesias tells Odysseues his future of how his journey would go and warns him of the potential dangers ahead.

  • The King gave a ship to Odysseus after being told his story, so Odysseus could find a way back home.
  • Return
  • Odysseus makes a plan with his son to wait and hide all the weapons from the suitors so he is the only one with a weapon, he will take down the suitors.
  • After passing Penelope's tests, he reveals to her his true identity. He turns from the old beggar into himself to show his wife that it's really him, and he's back to stay.

  • When does the journey matter more than the destination?
  • What makes a hero is their selflessness and integrity, as well as how they care for others. I think in today's society we tend to take the heroes around for granted even though we shouldn't.
  • The Odyssey is the epic story based off of the epic hero, Odysseus who has many set backs due to his own hubris. This is very important and a key part to the story beause it teaches us that pridefulness can often lead to hardships and even death.
  • The journey matters more than the destination when the journey helps your personal growth and you learn new things based off of your mistakes and victories.
