- Charlie Gordon is a 32 year old dude with an IQ of 68. he works at Donnegan's plastic box company and goes to Ms. Kinnian's adult school and is very determined to learn all he can and be smart.
- Climax
- Charlie is interviewed and chosen for an experimental operation being overseen by Dr. Strauss which triples the IQ of whoever receives it. it has only been performed on lab animals thus far, one of which Charlie befriends. this mouse's name is Algernon.
- Falling Action

- Charlie beats his friend Algernon in a wooden box maze, showing signs of his intelligence increasing. He is learning many things quickly such as spelling, writing, foreign languages, and math.
- Resolution
- Algernon begins regressing in terms of intelligence, he refuses to eat, and does basically nothing until he eventually dies. Charlie realizes that he is also doomed to the same fate as his friend, his intelligence would soon begin decreasing.
- Charlie's intelligence begins to regress as he forgets languages, the meaning of complex literature, and sophisticated vocabulary. he also blocks out the two doctors Dr. Strauss and Dr. Nemur, as well as Ms. Kinnian.
- charlie eventually forgets all that he learned and reverts to his old self, if not slightly smarter than before. he forgets about his complex relationship with Ms. Kinnian and about Dr. Strauss and Dr. Nemur. (his skin color has also reverted to an acceptable tone, not resembling that of a certain past U.S. president *cough cough trump cough cough*)
