- Lennie is very strong, and he doesn’t know how strong he is. Earlier in the book, Lennie has killed mice by stroking them too hard and now has killed a puppy. He tries to hide the puppy by burying it in the hay. Curley’s wife finds Lennie in the barn and then finds the puppy dead. “I was jus’ playing with him...an’ then he was dead.”
- Lennie likes to feel soft things and he holds onto her hair for too long. Curley’s wife tells Lennie to get off her and starts to scream. Lennie puts his hand over her mouth and shakes her until she goes still. Then he realises that he broken her neck. Lennie has a child’s mind, so he doesn’t really know what he is doing. “I done a bad thing. I done another bad thing.”
- I don't think Lennie is responsible for the death of Curley's wife because he has the mind of a child and was not aware of his actions as he was trying to stop her from screaming. He needs George to be with him at all times otherwise he does stupid things. Curley's wife gave her consent to touch her hair so he did and then she changed her mind so he didn't let her go because he got scared.
- George has repeatedly told Lennie to go there if he gets into trouble. Lennie can remember this because George repeated it so many times. It is important to Lennie that George isn’t angry at him. “George’ll be mad.” I think that George should not have left Lennie alone because Lennie cannot be trusted to be on his own.

- George has to shoot Lennie because he worries the others might think he had something to do with the death of Curley’s wife and kill him as well. George also needs to kill Lennie because he has killed a lot of animals, but now he has killed a human being, and he might do it again. When Slim finds out that George has shot Lennie he says, “A guy got to sometimes.”
