- -Maximilien Robespierre was the mastermind of the Reign of Terror and he led the Committee of Public Safety and the executive committee of the National Convention. He gave a speech to the National Convention about how terror could lead to the Republic of Virtue. His speech was, “If the spring of popular government in time of peace is virtue, the springs of popular government in revolution are at once virtue and terror: virtue, without which terror is fatal; terror, without which virtue is powerless. Terror is nothing other than justice, prompt, severe, inflexible...”.

- The 578 delegates agreed and all but one of them signed it."The National Assembly, considering that it has been summoned to establish the constitution of the kingdom... decrees that all members of this assembly shall immediately take a solemn oath not to separate... until the constitution of the kingdom is established on firm foundations... "
- Declaration of the Rights of Man
- A new order for France was represented by the resolutions of the Assembly. The declaration gave the people the laws and principles of the new state. Men had equal rights and the rights to liberty, prosperity and security.
