- I'm scared Hansel! It is so dark!
- Hansel and Gretel were brother and sister. They lived with their father because their mother had sadly got sick and passed away. Their dad was a lumberjack and worked very hard. The house they all lived in was rickety and old.
- Their father got lonely and decided it was too hard to provide for two kids all alone. He married another woman. The woman became the kids step-mother but she didn't like her step-children at all. She told her husband she would take them on a hike tomorrow and leave them there.
- The next day, the family went for a walk. Luckily, Hansel was a clever boy. Late last night he picked up pebbles in his pocket and dropped them to mark the way home. Eventually the two parents lit a fire and made an excuse to go home. The two did not leave the fires side until the moon shone through the trees.
- The two followed the pebble trail and safely returned home the next day where their father was happy to see them.
