Mental/Emotional and Social wellness are what make up total wellness. Mental wellness is being comfortable with the things and people around you. Emotional wellness is about how you feel, think, and act in certain situations. Social wellness is about how you interact with the people around you.
Mental and Social Wellness
Building relationships is a fundamental aspect of social wellness. According to lesson 3 in module 1, sustaining relationships with friends requires mutual understanding, trust, positive attitude, honesty, sensitivity, and respect towards each other's differences. Keeping a good relationship with your parents requires respect for their authority. Testing your limits and challenging their rules are a natural part of adolescence, but it's important not to forget that they are speaking from experience and that they do everything for a reason. Keeping in touch regularly with friends and family can improve your social wellness. Also doing things like forming relationships with coworkers and neighbors can improve your social health as well.
Relationships
Stress is natural, healthy process. However, the way that you deal with this stress can make it unhealthy. According to lesson 4 of module 1, the 3 stages of stress are the alarm stage (fight or flight), resistance stage (dealing with the stress), and the exhaustion stage (can no longer deal with the stress). In stressful situations, we may feel a rush of adrenaline, feel tired, and finally feeling exhausted. To properly manage stress, it's important to remind yourself that it will eventually pass. It's also important to make a plan to get out of the stressful situation, and prioritize things by only focusing on what matters.
