- Muhammad was a pious Christian man who did not like the corruption of the rich people in his town, Mecca.
- According to Islam, Muhammad was meditating in a cave when the archangel Gabriel appeared and told him about God's orders in what is known as the "Final Revelation".
- He told his wife about his experience, and she later became the first convert to the then-new religion of Islam.
- Muhammad told scholars about his newfound knowledge, and they wrote it down to create the Quran, which is the book of Islam.
- Because of his dissenting religion, Muhammad was no longer welcome in Mecca. He had no choice but to leave.
- He went to a neighboring town called Medina.
