This is a story about Jack a lab technician who has Munchausen Syndrome and thinks that he is seriously ill.

Storyboard Text

  • Got to call 911
  • Meet Jack Rock.
  • I think I have a serious illness. I have to go to the hospital!
  • Jack is transported to the hospital.
  • Jack called 911 and is transported to the hospital
  • Jack should get an Oscar for his performance!
  • Haha.. I just love the attention I'm getting!
  • Hmmm... notseeing any physicalsigns in the test results
  • So Mr. Rock,don't worry. We will take some tests to see what's wrong.
  • Oooooh I'm not feeling good, I think I'm going to vomit .......
  • Negative medical test results.
  • Oh no, I have to go home. Got to do something.
  • But doc I'm still not feeling good. 
  • Good news Mr. Rock. We haven't found anything wrong with you
  • Another desperate 911 call.
  • 911 . I am bleeding, not sure where all this blood is coming from helppp…...
  • Jack Rock is a lab technician and is 30 years old. He lives alone and does not have many friends. Jack has Munchausen Syndrome
  • Once again Jack is transported to the hospital.
  • Again Jack was transported to the hospital
  • Jack is faking the symptoms of stomach cancer, telling the medics that he has belly pain, nausea, and was vomiting blood.
  • Another negative medical tests results.
  • Doc I told you that there's something wrong with me!
  • Your symptoms are very strange.
  • Test results are negative!
  • Jack is squirming and acting sick, giving a stellar performance as a patient. He's enjoying all the attention that he is getting.
  • Discussing Jack's symptoms.
  • We have checked all medical results. Jack is not sick at all!
  • The medical tests results comes back negative, so Jack must leave the hospital. He is already thinking what he will do the next time.
  • A likely diagnosis.
  • We have looked at all medical reports, spoken to Jack's family and friends.
  • We have concluded that Jack is showing signs of Munchausen Syndrome!
  • Mr. Rock you have Munchausen Syndrome! You need therapy!
  • Jack calls 911 again. This time telling the operator that he is vomiting blood. He has cut his tongue and inside his cheeks, making sure to get blood on his clothes and the floor.
  • Jack is confronted.
  • No I'm not mentally ill. I am physically sick.
  • Jack is telling the medics that his stomach cancer has gotten worse. Jack is very knowledgeable about the symptoms of this type of cancer.
  • The doctors are getting suspicious about Jack's behavior and symptoms. What Jack is telling them about his physical symptoms is inconsistent with the medical tests results.
  • Hiehie … now Iam getting the attention I wanted.
  • We believe he is faking his symptoms.
  • The doctors are discussing their findings. They have reviewed all medical records of Jack and have concluded that Jack is faking his physical symptoms. He is showing signs of Munchausen Syndrome.
  • All medical records are reviewed. Family members and friends were interviewed. Based on their research the doctors have concluded that Jack most likely has the Munchausen Syndrome.
  • Jack is confronted by the doctor about his behavior. Jack is frightened but at the same time excited that a real diagnosis has been found for his behavior.
  • Wow I finally have a real diagnosis yippeee....
  • I am not a mentally ill!
  • I am not mentally ill. I will show that doc!
  • Should I stay or go?
  • But you know I am tired of running. I should accept that I have a problem.
  • I am going to skip town.
  • Doc you are right I do have a problem and I want to get better!
  • Finally a meaningful acceptance.
  • I am sorry. I need therapy. Please help me!
  • Don't worry Jack I will help you.
  • Balanced treatment.
  • I was neglected as a child by my parents and didn't know how to cope. But when I was sick I got all the attention!
  • That's good Jack, a breakthrough, now you know what caused your behavior!
  • Only time will tell.
  • I know that it will take a long time, but I am slowly getting better!

  • Jack is home thinking about his situation. He is angry and in denial, since he does not want to accept that he has a mental illness and needs help.

  • Jack is thinking of leaving and move to another city. But after some time decides to stay and accept the fact that he indeed has a mental illness.
  • Finally.... Jack has accepted that he has a mental illness and needs help to deal with his strange behavior. The doctor is sympathetic and willing to help Jack with his mental illness.
  • Jack has started psychoanalysis and cognitive behavioral therapy. He is being tactfully counselled and encouraged to develop new ways of managing his feelings.
  • Jack is slowly getting better, but it will take a long time. Everyone around Jack will have to be very patient, support and encourage him to continue to make positive changes in his behavior.
