- The sun's Solar Energy provides us with both light (radiant) and heat (thermal) energy.
- Yes, hopefully the Sun's ultraviolet rays will give me an awesome tan!
- Plants like me transfer the light energy into chemical energy during Photosynthesis and produce Oxygen and Glucose.
- When I die, I will decompose and layers of sediment will apply pressure to me over millions of years. Eventually, I will turn into a fossil fuel.
- Nuclear Energy in the form of Fusion makes the sun's light and heat.
- Coal is a fossil fuel.
- Coal fired power plants combust the coal to produce heat. The heat boils the water which turns into steam. The steam turns the blades of a turbine (mechanical energy) which spins an axle (kinetic energy) connected to a generator and produces electricity (electricalenergy.)
- CO2, the other product of the combustion reaction, is a greenhouse gas.
- Gasoline (Chemical energy) is another fossil fuel. It is combusted in our car's engines.
- Chemical energy is converted to mechanical spins our wheels allowing us to drive places. Heat energy is unfortunately another product of the exothermic combustion reaction.
- Once the electricity, generated by the power plant, reaches its destination, another transformer converts the electricity back to a lower voltage safe for homes businesses to use.
- The electrical energy is converted into mechanical energy and spins the drum of the dryer is converted intoheat energy to dry the clothes.
- I'm hungry after that science lesson! I think I will eat an orange and allow the chemical energy to be converted into mechanical energy after it goes through my digestive system. Anyone up for a bike ride before the beach?
