- Down by the bay, we see a pack of dogs.

- They each have different physical characteristics and are unique in appearance. This is called genetic variation which refer to differences between individuals or to differences between populations.
- All modern dogs are descendants of wolves because thousands of years ago, humans domesticated wolves which means that they adapted animals for human use. Many of them look nothing like wolves and vary in shape and size. This is because of artificial selection.
- I heard its because of something called artificial selection but to be honest I think its all because of those selfish humans!
- DUDE! you're so tiny!
- Why do we all look so different?
- Artificial selection is the process of by which humans use animal breeding to selectively develop desired characteristics. Breeders use artificial selection for desired characteristics for animals and plants.
- For example, a breeder could choose two individuals to mate and reproduce inorder to give the offspring the desired characteristics.

- Domestication and artificial selection is the reason why we have so many kinds of dogs and each with different characteristics!
