The Union had the advantage all morning, before the Confederacy retreated temporarily. While the Confederacy was gone, McDowell tended to his hurt men. Beaureguard met with Thomas J. Jackson. Later that day, Jackson, Beaureguard and their men attacked the Union's infantry regiment and flanked the Union on their left. Although, the Confederacy was victorious in the Battle of Bull Run, they lost Gen. Benard Bees. If I had to tell someone something about the battle it would be.... Those who came to watch the Battle of Bull Run, a "real war" didn't return to watch the others after realizing this was going to be a prolonged, treacherous war. The Battle of Bull Run had two major impacts on the war. First, it reminded people of the brutality of war and showed the war was going to be much longer than expected. Second, this war brought new weapons such as the Rifle Musket, hand grenades and canons. As well as new military tactics, rather than marching in lines, they figured out new configurations for their men.
