Newbery Honor winning author Beverly Cleary was born in McMinnville, Oregon in 1916. She wrote many beloved children's books such as the Ramona Quimby series, Dear Mr. Henshaw, and Runaway Ralph. She passed away at the age of 104 in March of 2021.
The Capital of Oregon is Salem. Some of the other large cities include Portland, Eugene, Hillsboro, and Beaverton.
Oregon's state nickname is the Beaver State. Its state motto is, "She flies with her own wings."

Located in the southern part of Oregon, Crater Lake National Park has over 700,000 visitors a year. It was named for Crater Lake, which was formed by the now-collapsed volcano, Mount Mazama.
