- Its 1930, in Germany. Josef, his sister Ruthie, and his mother and his father are being attacked by Nazis.
- Rising Action Event 2
- Jewish people unfairly being thrown out of their homes and taken into Concentration camps to work 'til their deaths.
- Rising Action Event 3
- One night, Josef and his family were sleeping. Nazi's had been going around looking for Jewish people to take to concentration camps. All of a sudden, the Nazi soldiers broke into his family's house, and started forcing them out of their beds, and destroying everything. Josef, his mother, and his sister were able to stay, but his father was taken to a concentration camp.
- Josef tries to buy his family food by hiding his Star of David armband in his pocket. His armband falls out of his pocket, and a Nazi caught him, but luckily that same person used to be his friend before he became a Nazi, so he set him free.
- Josef and his family manage to get tickets for a Jewish-friendly ship, called the MS Saint Louis. The ship will be sailing them to freedom in Cuba.
