- "Giggling"
- As Mitchell Sanders plays with his yoyo. Norman Bowker, Kiowa,and Dave Jensen rest. The soilders watch Rat Kiley and Curt Lemon play with a smoke grenade.
- Dave sings "Lemon Tree"
- Rat Kiley and Curt Lemon were playing catch with a smoke grenade . The game was called "yellow mother" it was a game that Rat Kiley and Curt Lemon invented. Whoever chickened out was called a "yellow mother" and lost the game.
- While playing and fooling around with the smoke grenade Curt Lemon steps on a land mine. Both Curt Lemon and Rat Kiley are in shock.
- "Kicks the water buffalo"
- Curt Lemons body gets blown to pieces from the land mine . Dave Jensen and Tim O'Brien are sent to get Curt Lemons remains from the tree.
- After the death of his best friend Rat Kiley is visibly upset and shoots a baby water buffalo with his rife. The soilders in his platoon watch as he unloads his magazine into the baby water buffalo. The scene shows Rat Kiley mourning the loss of his best friend by shooting the water buffalo.
- After severely injuring the water buffalo Rat Kiley broke down and began to cry. The rest of the platoon were in awe that the baby buffalo was still alive.
