- My name is Buck. I live in a big house on a ranch in California. I was stolen by Manuel, a farm hand, who sold me to work during the Gold Rush. Although I lived my life in the Klondike and never returned home. I did eventually get a new master, John Thorton, who made a home for me. I ended up living with the wolves and being free.Themes : Follow your instincts. In order to survive, you have to adapt. You have to be willing to fight to get to the top.
- We arrived in the Klondike and i saw my first snow, a dog named Curaly was killed by a group of dogs, and I had been strapped up to become a sled dog . I learned to dig a hole in the snow and used my body heat to sleep.I fought and won the top sled dog position. Being a working dog, I had long days in cold weather and not a lot of rest because my humans were in constant search of gold.
- I was then sold to a husband and wife who really didn't know anything about life in the Klondike because they overpacked the sled, overturned it, and then decided to buy more dogs for a total of forteen. My new owners seemed unable to learn how to survive, dogs began to die from starvation and being overworked. I was rescued and revived by John Thorton when I refused to go anymore and my owners went on to fall to their death in the ice melting in the spring.
