Francisco Pizarro and His friend Diego de Almagro set out on their first expedition to look for the rich land of gold which indians said could be reached from the south Sea.Their expedition was made up of one ship amd one hundred men approximately.
The result of theie first expedition was starvation which led to the deaths of many men and led to finacial ruin for Pizarro and Almagro as they had invested alot of money into this expedition.
In 1526 they set out on a second expedition and discovered that there was a rich civilization in the mountains of peru but had too little men to attemp a war
Pizarro tried to get the men he needed for the war but did not suceed so he went to spain and asked King Charles V for assistance and there he met Cortez in court and they both got permission for an expedition.Pizarro was promised the title of governor general of Peru if he was successful.they then set off again in 1530.

After a year, they arrived in Tumbes and plundered the city and sent the wealth back to Panama and this was enough to convince settlers to join Pizarro's army.He was also joined by the conquistador Hernando De Soto and with these reinforcements they continued south and established the town of San Miguel which was also the base for future operations.
In 1527 a powerful incan emperor had died and the kingdom was divided between his two sons, Huascar and Atahualpa.Atahualpa however was too ambitious and war broke out between the two brothers.Atahualpa was victorious and Atahualpa then put on a scarlet fringe to symbolise his supreme and divine authority and set up his court in Cajamarca
