Legend of Sundiata
Storyboard Text
- One day, two hunters brought a woman named Sogolon to see King Maghan in his throne room.This woman was supposedly "ugly". A prophecy told to King Maghan said that if he married Sogolon, their son would be the greatest son of Mali.
- Sundjata is the heir to the throne
- Sogolon and King Maghan have a baby named Sundjiata. Unfortunately, the baby cannot talk or walk. The king was disappointed, as the baby was supposed to be the greatest ruler of Mali, but how could it if it couldn't even walk let alone talk.
- Eventually, Sundjiata speaks and is given a Griot (poet, musician, or storyteller that maintains the tradition of oral history) to record his sayings and words.
- When King Maghan names Sundjiata as his heir to the throne, his first wife Sassouma becomes very jealous because her son did not get chosen.
- Because of their jealousy, Sassouma and her son treat Sogolona and Sundjata very badly. They say hurtful things and spread bad rumors about them.
- A griot gives Sundjiata an iron walking stick and he miraculously stands.
