- Denial is the refusal to accept reality and this causes them to block out events happening in the real world.

- Displacement is taking out your aggression or anger on something that has nothing to do with why you are feeling that type of way.

- Repression is how you act in the present because of some kind of trauma you were dealing with in the past.

- Well in my last relationship I got cheated on so it is really hard for me to trust again

- Sublimation is the act of taking out all of your anger on something useful or something you enjoy doing.
- Man I cannot believe that my friend stole my money. It is a good thing I have basketball to take out all my anger.

- Rationalization is the failureto recognize ones own lack of skill, and instead blame it on other things.
- Hey did you make the basketball team?

- No I didn’t but I think the reason was because coach is just racist
