- The Big Bang!
- Robert Wilson and Arno Penzias were working on a new type of antenna at Bell Labs in Holmdel Township, New Jersey. They found a source of noise in the atmosphere that they couldn't explain. After removing all potential sources of noise, including pigeon droppings on the antenna, the noise was finally identified as CMB, which served as important corroboration of the Big Bang theory.

- I'm Stephen Hawking, and I can tell you about the Big Bang Theory.
- At the beginning of the universe, everything was in a small, dense mass. It was compressed under a lot of pressure.
- About 12 to 15 billion years ago the mass exploded and began to move apart. This event is called the Big Bang Theory.
- The universe grew from the size of a pin head, to 2,000 times the size of the sun, in less than one second.
- Eventually, the cloud of dust shrank to form spinning discs, called planetoids. This occurred about 5 billion years ago.
