- Hester looked up at him. She became still as death. “Please friend,” The doctor said to master Brackett. “Leave us alone. I promise you, your jail will soon be quiet.”

- The doctor went quietly into the room. He looked over the baby carefully. Then he took some medics from a leather beg. One of those medicines he mixed with water. “Here, woman!” He said. “Give this to your child.”

- “One more thing. You hav kept this secret. Now keep mine. Tell not a human soul that I was once your husband. Above all, do not tell your lover. If you tell him beware!”
