- "When I looked back, I realized that Jeffrey must have slipped off the stool and banged his face on the counter."Page, 16
- While Steven was trying to make oatmeal for Jeffrey, Jeffrey fell of the stool he hit his on the counter causing him to bleed really badly that he had to go to the E.R.
- "My mom said she suddenly noticed that Jeffrey was limping."Page, 40
- When Jeffrey went to the E.R. the nurse noticed that Jeffrey was limping, which caused Jeffrey to go to Philadelphia for him to get tested for leukemia. We he got the test back, the test turned out to be positive.
- My mother walked in. I didn't see her at first, and I guess she didn't spot me, so she had to get the DJ to stop the music and announce that Steven Alper's mother was here to pick him up." Page, 97
- Steven was really embarrassed because his mom went all the way to the DJ to tell him she was there to pick him up. Steven was really upset after that, but then forgave her.
- "However, if you have a brother with leukemia who needs to avoid exposure to viruses, you can’t BE in the same HOUSE as your parents when you have the flu."Page, 137
- Steven got sick and had to stay with his grandparents because if Jeffrey got sick he could die. Steven was really board at his grandparents house that he wanted to leave immediately.

- When Steven found out his brother was sad because he was bald, Steven shaved his head just so Jeffrey didn't have to be bald alone.
- "Annette and Renee were at the door, bringing glad tidings of box office and bake sales. With out all of the receipts having been counted yet, the running total for the evening was already over $21,000."Page, 260
- Steven and his friends made a fund raiser at the band concert so Stevens family can pay for Jeffrey's medical bill.
