- In this quote, Martin uses his children as an example as to how he wants them to live in a world where they can live freely without being judged for their skin color, but by who they are as people. He also says this as if he won't be able to see it happen in his lifetime, which is the sad truth
- PATHOS
- I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.
- I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: 'We hold these truths to be self - evident that all men are created equal.'
- King quotes the Declaration of Independence to point out the hypocrisy of the U.S. and wishes that one day people will be able to live amongst each other without the constant fear of being judged, shunned, or discriminated against due to someone's racial bias, nationality, gender, or religious beliefs.
- ETHOS
- Martin uses another quote from the Declaration of Independence to use the logic of, all men are created equal and how the note does not promise everyone equal rights given the fact that he is standing on the podium giving a speech for equal rights.
- LOGOS
- This note was a promise that all men, yes black men as well as white men, would be guaranteed the unalienable rights of Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness
