- I love the project idea. Although you have pitched the idea, I am giving the project to Tiffany. Make sure to provide any and all data support necessary!
- I would like to talk more about my original project proposal
- During a team meeting, my executive director invites everyone to share out their projects with the team. During this meeting, I share out a project he approved last week. But as teammates shared, I noticed another teammate share this project as her own. My executive director said he moved things around and now my project will be hers, and I will play the role of data support, not leader.
- Immediately, I felt uneasy. I was triggered that the idea I pitched and had completed all of the foundational work was given to someone who does not have previous experience creating data tools or compiling research reports. I also knew that if I was directed to support her, she would ask that I compile the most difficult tasks of the project, share it with her and she would present it as her own.
- I spent some time thinking about how I was feeling. I was intentional about not allowing my overwhelming emotions dictate the way I communicated verbally and through my body language. Then I approached my executive director to have a 1:1 conversation about my proposal and the work I had accomplished thus far. I communicated that the project goals aligned more with my scope of work and expertise.
