- One day in Paris during the Franco-Prussian War. There were two friends Monsieur Morissot that works as a watch maker, and another man who is Monsieur Sauvage who is a draper. Thy both went fishing every Sunday.
- Falling action
- The two men ran into each other and went to drink in a cafe. Monsieur Sauvage then suggested to go fishing like the good old days, but there is war in that area.
- Climax
- The carefully go to there spot, then they heard a canon so they talked about the war and both agreed that ''agreeon one point: that they would never be free.’’
- Theme
- The officer tells the men he will kill them only if they give him the password, that allowed them to come here. Both men didn't tell the officer the password.
- The officer gave the order to the soldiers that both men will be executed and be thrown to the water with the men's body tightened with a rope. The officer then told the soldiers to grill the big fish that the men caught.
