  • The novel is set in a futuristic world where the fireman puts fire to burn all the books. A fireman, Montag, meets Clarisse on the way home. She opensMontag’s conservative thinking by asking him if he is happy. This becomes the question that evaluates rest of his life.
  • Climax
  • Montag sees a woman burns with her books to voice her opposition to the practice of book burning. He feels overwhelmed by guilty after the fireman killed the woman. He also takes a book from the fire and wonders is the book can answer his question.
  • Falling Action
  • Captain Beatty, Montag’s chief, knows he stole a book from the fire. Beatty visits Montag and givesMontag a long lecture and states many quotes from the books trying to convince him the book is useless and cannot answer his question.
  • Resolution
  • Mildred, Montag’s wife, invites her friend to their house. Montag is furious and he reads a poem called “Dover Beach” to her friend.The ladies leave disgusted, offended and threaten. One of Mildred’s friend andMildred report to the firemen.
  • Captain Beatty forces Montag to burn the book himself by flame thrower. Mildred leaves the house as the firemen arrive. He kills his chief and the other firemen in order to escape with a few books he has left. He makes his way down to the river and finds a colony of intellectuals who love books.
  • ER
  • He finds a group of professor or ‘Harvard’ degree who also love books. He hopes to travel to St. Louis where he can find book printer and reproduce the books. At the end, the war starts by the jets appear to drop off the bombs to destroy the society. Montag ends up with the group searching for survivors to rebuild civilization.
