This story takes place in Alabama, in 1945. African Americans are free at this time but there is still segregation and the Jim Crow Laws are still in effect
This man is moving north but needs to avoid going into sundown towns. He orders a Green Book so he can avoid these towns and go to places that accept African Americans.
The Green book finally came in/
He looks at the book so he can know where to go. He does this because if he takes one wrong turn, he can end up in the wrong place and get hurt by people in the sundown towns.
Where do I go from here?
He realizes that he needs more gas for his car so he looks at the Green Book for the nearest gas station that accepts African Americans.
I need some gas
He finds the gas station and gets some gas for his car. While he is there, he realizes that it is starting to get late and he is getting tired. He looks in the Green Book again to look for a hotel to stay in for the night.
I'm getting tired
He gets to the hotel safely and the sky is now dark. He goes into the hotel to sleep for the night so he can continue his journey tomorrow.
