- Brothers and sisters, muskrat went too long without air and he is dead.
- After a long time of failed tries from different animals, a muskrat volunteered to dive and reach the Earth. Although many bigger and more powerful animals, including the turtle, went before the muskrat and were still unable to reach the Earth, Nanabush agreed and gave the muskrat its chance to dive in.
- There is something in his palms. It is Earth!!
- The muskrat was gone for much longer time than the others. After a while, Nanabush and the rest of the animals were certain that the muskrat gave his life trying to reach the bottom. After an hour below the water's surface, the muskrat had reached the bottom. Very weak from the lack of air he grabs some Earth in his palm, and with all the energy he started swimming to the surface.
- One of the animals spotted the muskrat as he floated to the surface. Nanabush grabbed the muskrat and put he beside him on the log. He found that the muskrat was dead because of the lack of air. A mourning song was heard all across the water when the muskrat's spirit was being passed to the world.
- Suddenly, Nanabush exclaimed that there was something in the muskrat's palm. All animals gathered closer to see what was held tight in his tiny palms. the muskrat's paw opened revealing a small ball of Earth. Muskrat sacrificed his life so that a new life on Earth can begin.
- Nanabush took the piece of the Earth from the muskrat's paw, just then the turtled asked to use its back to bear the wight of the Earth.
- Nanabush put the piece of the Earth on the turtle's back. It started to grow and grow until it shaped the Earth. All the animals sang happily around the Earth, while the turtle is still their holding the Earth on its back.
