  • Hi! I'm Jodie, the ACT Children and Young People Commissioner.My job is to help make the ACT better for children and young people. I do this by listening to you.
  • 1. Your views are important

  • You have the right to tell us about things that are important to you and to have a say in decisions that affect you. When you share your views with us we want to make sure you feel good about it. Here are some ways we will do that.

  • You are unique. We want to hear about your different experiences, thoughts and ideas. We call these your views. If you find it hard we will support you so you can share your views. 
  • 5. We will explain what we are doing and why

  • Your views are important because you are a child.You are the only one who knows what it is like to be you, living in the ACT. You can help us learn how to make the ACT better for children.
  • 6. You can share your views in different ways
  • We will only ask you to share your views if we think it will help you or other children. You might not see how it helps because it could make the ACT better for children you do not know.
  • We will ask for your views in ways that suit your age and your abilities. We get advice on good ways to do this. We would love to hear what you think of the activities we do together so we can keep making them better.

  • We follow rules about how we use what you tell us. We share what we learn with other people so they can help make the ACT better too. We can keep some things completely private but not if you are being hurt.

  • It is important you feel safe while sharing your views.We will make sure the place we are in is safe for you and the way we are asking for your views is safe. You can ask us to change something if you do not feel safe.If you feel upset we will get support for you.

  • You choose if you want to share your views or not.You can change your mind any time you want. We will give you information about what we are doing so you can decide. If you say no, that is fine!

  • If you are not happy with something when you share your views with us, you can let us know. Ask a trusted adult if you need help to contact us. We will listen to you and take what you tell us seriously.

  • Your views and time are important to us and we will show you that. We might thank you in different ways, like giving you a special card or certificate, or a small gift.
