  • Tanks
  • Flamethrowers
  • Poision gas
  • A small internal combustion engine burning diesel or gas, a heavily-armored vehicle could advance even in the face of overwhelming small arms fire. Add some serious guns and replace with the wheels with armored treads to handle rough terrian, and the tank was born.
  • Machine guns
  • Unlike grenades, flamethrowers could "neutralize" enemy soldiers in these confined spaces without inflicting structural damage.
  • Submarines
  • Before long, of course, the Allies were using poison gas too, and over the course of the war both sides resorted to increasingly insidious compounds to beat the gas mask, another new invention thus the overall result was a huge increase in misery for not much change in the strategic situation.
  • Airplanes
  • Produced by the British with mobility in mind were the Vickers gun, a heavy-calibre machine gun that required a minimum six-man team to operate but gained a reputation for absolute reliability, and the American-invented Lewis gun, the Vickers' lighter but less truth worthy offspring.
  • These submarines could carry 700 tons of cargo at 12-to 13-knot speeds on the surface and at seven knots submerged.
  • to provide ground-to-air defense enormous anti-aircraft guns Airplanes fueled further weaponry innovations as engineers assembled.
